چکیده

Carr and Price (1926) originally described a jnethod of determining the amount of vitamin A by the use of antimony trichloride. A quantity of the liver, or other organ, to be tested was dried and extracted in a Soxhlet apparatus, and j^test carried out with the extract. This is a tedious procedure when large numbers of tests ^re being done, and Moore (1930) modified it by dissolving the samples in 5 per cent caustic Potash and shaking this up with a little alcohol, ar|d extracting the fats and vitamin A by adding ether and shaking the mixture. When working in a hot and damp climate special precautions must be taken to prevent the Presence of moisture in the final extract. The method which has been followed is that described by Davies (1933) with a few small Modifications

Cxxviii. Spectrophotometric Investi- Gations of the New Vitamin a Colour Test. by Eugene Rosenthal And

COLORIMETRIC determination of vitamin A has frequently been based upon the Carr-Price reaction, namely the production of a blue colour when vitamin A is added to a saturated solution of antimony trichloride in chloroform, which shows two absorption maxima at 606 m,u and at 572 m,u, respectively. This reaction has the following drawbacks: (1) the blue colour is not specific for vitamin A, being ...

Clx. a Study of Seasonal Variation in Butter-fat. I. Seasonal Variations in Carotene, Vitamin a and the Antimony Trichloride Reaction. by Roland

IN January 1932 work was started in the National Institute for Research in Dairying to investigate the variations in the vitamin content of typical English milk as determined by the season of the year and the nutritional condition of the cow. This work, which was planned to cover two complete years, and which will be described in detail later, is mainly concerned with the accumulation of data o...

Cxxiv. Studies on Colour Tests for Sterols and for Vitamin A

IN the first paper of this series an account was given of some sterol tests in which blue colours were obtained very similar in appearance to those given by arsenic trichloride or antimony trichloride with cod-liver oil, and attributed to vitamin A. On account of this close resemblance, it appeared desirable next to undertake a spectroscopic study of the "vitamin" colours with the object of dis...

A Study of the Antimony Trichloride Color Reaction for Vitamin A. Ii. the Dilution Curve of Cod Liver Oil with Antimony

In a previous paper of this series (1) we have shown that while the dilution curve for cod liver oil with antimony trichloride is not a linear function, a comparison can be made between the colorimetric assay of vitamin A in certain fish oils, with a chloroform solution of antimony trichloride, and the biological assay upon the same oils, when certain precautions are taken. In a second paper (2...

Correlation between serum alkaline phosphatase and vitamin D3 levels among 1-14 years old malnourished children- A descriptive observational study

Background: Vitamin D deficiencies are highly prevalent globally, but the correlation between serum alkaline phosphatase and vitamin D3 deficiency among Indian children is seldom investigated. To describe the correlation of vitamin D3 levels and serum alkaline phosphatase levels among children admitted with malnutrition to the pediatric wards of a tertiary care center. Methods: This descriptiv...
